Love it / Live it: Walking on Sunshine [Seldon Conor Gile]

Hello and happy monday everyone! After a grey and dreary weekend here in Seattle I'm craving the sunshine more than ever. 'Pink Trees' by Seldon Conor Gile is the perfect fix when the Winter days just won't stop. I love the tonal purples and blues against the saturated yellow-greens. The grass in the foreground seems to glow in the sunlight.

These chairs seem to have that same effervescent glow, the neon transparency appears to almost be lit within. A chair like this in my living room would give me that daily shock of color that I so need this time of year. As this blog also serves as my own little sunshine I have so many exciting plans to come, starting with a (Strataflora) GIVEAWAY in only 3 days, so start the countdown!

Art + Interiors: Geometric Abstraction [Sarah Morris]

I hope you all had a relaxing and rejuvenating weekend. I myself spent the weekend completely unplugged moving into my brand new place! I am so excited to share with you all the projects we're working on very soon (you know, in all that spare time I have). In the mean time I'm feeling inspired by these bold geometric paintings by Sarah Morris.
There is something about the graphic intensity of these particular works mixed with their toned down palettes that gives them a uniqueness that only Sarah Morris can accomplish. The crossing lines play with space beautifully and I'm thinking about a space that does the same thing...

A different kind of geometry in each piece keeps the overall effect from feeling stale while a few black and silver pieces really help to anchor the space. Imagine this wallpaper on a far accent wall, the room would open up before your eyes in every direction...Enjoy!

Art + Interiors: Mountain Graffiti [TCHMO]

Hello and happy weekend! So glad to finally have had time to sit down and create a full post. This time of year in Seattle can be tough , a lot of grey days and misty mornings and while the mountains do provide a bit of relief I find myself craving the addition of color and texture to the horizon. These prints satisfied that craving beautifully.
The Giclee prints found on tchmo.com caught my eye with their frosty mountains peaking through clouds of pinks and blues. I love the layered method and abstract mixed with photographic realism. It makes me want to spray paint a little color on my windshield to update my view of the winter days.

A little bit of organic texture thrown into a Winter to Spring palette makes this a fresh take on a living space, mix in some greys and natural surfaces and you've got a room with modern sophistication that will leave a lasting impression. Thanks so much for stopping by today and come back soon for a little forecast of things to come!

Love it / Live it: Great Waves [Katsushika Hokusai]

One of my all time favorite pieces of art is The Great Wave by Hokusai, (I've lived with an oversized poster of the print over my bed for years) I love the juxtaposition between the flowing wave and the stark contrasting lines of the wood cut. There is just something about the wave crashing bold and crisp against the unknowing sky that gives me both a sense of excitement and of calm. This just so happens to be a great analogy for my life right now...Huge changes, overwhelming responsibilities and bold moves are happening in my life and as hectic as it feels it's all coming with a peaceful calm that is undeniable...
I'm absolutely loving this handmade leather iphone case from Tinder & Bloom Studio's etsy shop, (and for those of you lucky enough to have one, they have ipad cases too!) and I'm dying for this wallpaper by walnut wallpaper to cover my powder room with...I'm looking forward to sharing all the exciting changes in my life with you all soon, until then...Enjoy!

Art + Interiors: Brushed Nostalgia [Gerhard Richter]

The work of reknowned artist Gerhard Richter is a mash up of my absolute favorite artistic mediums. Nature and colorful abstractions combine to make stunningly rich pieces that cause a second and a third look from the viewer. The work has a sort of nostalgic quality to it as the photographic can only be seen through heavy stokes of painted and the photographs content is somewhat lost leaving the veiwer to fill in the story themselves.
For me the overall feeling of these pieces is of the unique, diverse entities each of us are on our surroundings. As beautiful these photographs probably are on their own, it is the artistic presence that gives them life. Let's not be afraid to have the same effect on our world, color your surroundings and jog the ordinary with imperfect abstractions to give them new life....

coffee table arteriors home, wallpaper anthropologie, daybed west elm, pendant arteriors, end table wisteria, pillow west elm, pillow and dinnerware cb2, bowl urban outfitters, chair west elm
I love a juxtaposition between manufactured and organic, soft and hard, fluid and concrete. None of these pieces are individually bold or outrageous but together they create a quiet and natural environment where earth, metal and water all have an equal presence. Its sophisticated without being uptight and without losing that little element of surprise...Thanks for coming by today, Enjoy!!

I want to live in...Free People

Recently I found inspiration while perusing the light lacey frocks and flowing tops of our local Free People store. I can't afford a single thing in there but I just love being in the store. Whoever is behind the visuals of that place is absolutely brilliant...
All the decor and furnishings are hand-sewn and made specifically for each location (and no they won't sell them, I asked). My favorite was an oversized round ottoman covered in bright green sari fabric...got the wheels  turning for my first DIY project I just need to find the right fabric...Enjoy!!

Ladybird: Jeremy Jay "Airwalker"

Last night i was chosen to attend Teatro Zinzanni which is a dinner and theatrics show; it was nothing less than amazing. i was inspired by the trapeze swingers and thought how afraid i would be to hang 25 feet off the ground and dance on air. jeremy jay sings airwalker from his 2007 ep "the airwalker". i hope you enjoy his light and airy voice as much as i do.

Art + Interiors: Gut Instincts [Sam Gilliam]

"My formula has always been one of change....It's really a matter of confidence and of gut instincts. I'll take a chance on losing everything in order to gain something else. As a result, I usually gain, because all of my experiences and methods are cumulative" -Sam Gilliam

One of my favorite works of Art at the Seattle Art Museum has always been the 4 panel, 50+ foot wide piece by African American Artist Sam Gilliam. The over scaled tie-dyed canvas explode with color from frame to frame. When standing in front of them I get a feeling of endless possibility, they're so full of light and movement that they seem to inject their energy right into the viewer. Gilliam's quote is a great reminder for me in both my art and my life. Sometimes we have to take a leap out of our comfort zone, just move on a hunch that there's something better for us, better from us. So I'm taking a cue from him this week and ignoring any worry and self-doubt and looking a bit more to my confidence and gut instincts on these next steps.

What I love about this little roundup is the play between geometry and abstract, between circles and squares and between the color-drenched and the colorless. The decor is in the movement, the elements and the pops of color broken up by the textured stainless steel. And I'm especially loving these agate plates that are popping up everywhere lately, they're such a fun way to add a shock of color and texture to a space. Enjoy!

Art + Interiors: Cali to the Northwest [William Wendt]

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had fun celebrating and are excited as I am to take on a brand new year. As I begin this new chapter of my life back here in Seattle I realize how at home I feel among snow capped mountains, grassy parks and ever-changing trees. And ironically enough I'm looking to the "Dean of the California Artists", William Wendt today for my inspiration. His works show the richest parts of California and those that would fit just as seamlessly into the landscapes of the Northwest.
We've been lucky enough to have sunshine and blue skies here lately (though it is freezing) and I'm learning to take the best of what my time in California taught me and fuse it with my new found perspective of the Northwest. Wendt's greyed out trees and cloud spotted skies seem like the perfect representation. I love the rough and gestural landscapes capturing sun-soaked weathered trees curving around shaded hills.  They are not about a perfect day, or a perfectly manicured scene but the paintings feel incredibly warm, welcoming and open.

As you know I love infusing nature into my interiors whether it be through the palette, the textures or the materials and then adding a bit of glamour for the unexpected. This space does just that. The greens and browns anchor the space while a bronze brushed accent pillow and a mirrored chest keep it from feeling too granola. Earthy Chic is what I like to call it, Enjoy!
